Cgi is now expected medium for architectural visuals

Architect Martin Hornbrook says his clients now expect computer-generated imagery (Cgi) to be part of any building design presentation.

He used Stem to produce an A3-sized architectural visual of his design for a clubhouse on the luxury holiday resort in The Warren, Abersoch, Wales, where holiday homes sell for up to £400,000. He is to use the 3D visual as part of a presentation to his clients.

Mr Hornbrook, of Martin Hornbrook Associates, whose offices are based in Fieldgate Lane, Kenilworth, added: "I chose Cgi over watercolours partly because you can make changes to the design easily - which you just can't do with an artist's impression or water colour.

"Elements of the clubhouse design have been influenced by the look and feel of luxury cruise liners. I am very pleased with the 3D visual from Stem - it looks like a very sexy building - which it is!

"Clients expect Cgi visuals nowadays. This has been the first time I have used it, and I plan to use Cgi images, instead of the traditional 2D artists' impressions, from now on."

He said he chose Stem, which is based at the Technocentre, Puma Way, Cheylesmore, Coventry, because of the high quality of work and its attention to detail.

Tim Barrett, an experienced 3D architectural visualiser at Stem who has produced thousands of 3D architectural visuals during his 14-year career, said: "I have really enjoyed working with Martin and the fact he gave us freedom in the way we interpreted the brief.

"Whenever possible we try to incorporate our knowledge of the environment surrounding a project into a visualisation, which makes all the difference to the finished image.

"I know the part of the country and the climate where this clubhouse is to be based so was able to incorporate certain details, such as palm trees, to bring it to life."
